Nick Kalinin has ended the first World Supersport 300 race of 2019 at Aragon in a strong 14th place. After eleven intense laps, he was only 3sec behind the race winner what shows once more that the World Supersport 300 is one of the most competitive race classes in the world. Dino Iozzo impressed with the 4th fastest laptime in the race, 2.07.7 in the eleven laps but had to be satisfied with a 17th place while Tom Bramich ended in 24th place. Dorren Loureiro had to retire with one lap to go.
Because of the new World Supersport 300 regulations it was even before that start of the weekend quit clear that Aragon would be a challenging first race for all Kawasaki Ninja 400 riders. And it turned out be a quit challenging weekend for all four RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki riders. Unfortunately that is a pity, as the winter period was one of the best the team ever had.
On Saturday Nick Kalinin from Ukraine scored a 16th place in the Superpole and with this performance he was the best qualified Nutec – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki rider. Also his team mates Dorren Loureiro (23rd) and Dino Iozzo (26th), both from South-Africa, performed well given the circumstances. Australian Tom Bramich, who is racing for Carl Cox-RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki, had to qualify himself by the new World Supersport 300 Last Chance race and succeeded in his attempt as he ended the race on Saturday afternoon in a strong fifth.
Given the strong performance of all four riders, RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki is looking forward to the next race at the world famous TT Circuit of Assen in the Netherlands. More or less the home race of the team.
Team manager Rob Vennegoor:
“We knew it would be not easy this weekend. Because of the regulations but also because of the level in this class. It is almost insane! But after the first race we can be satisfied with the progress all riders have made. With Assen next I can’t wait till the next race. We have ridden before at Assen and that’s a big benefit in World Supersport 300.”
Next race Assen: 12-14 April
