Coaching courses are conducted by the State Controlling Bodies of MA at various times throughout the year. Motorcycle Sport Coaching accreditation lasts for four years.
Gaining a Motorcycle Sport Coaching Accreditation
In order to gain a Motorcycle Sport Coaching Licence you will be required to:
- Demonstrate practical experience in relation to motorcycle riding, together with a sound knowledge of motorcycle riding technique,
- Satisfy any pre-requisites for attending the coaching course (for example, obtain a General Principles certificate from the ASC, achieve the first level of accreditation prior to progressing to next level etc.),
- Attend, complete and successfully pass all requirements of the coaching course,
- Complete any post course assessment,
- Show evidence you have satisfied the necessary Child Protection legislation in the States and Territories in which you wish to coach,
- Complete and return the appropriate licence application form to the Relevant Controlling Body.
Renewing a Motorcycle Sport Coaching Licence
In order to renew your coaching licence you will be required to:
- Complete and return the appropriate licence application form to the Relevant Controlling Body,
Maintain the necessary Child Protection legislation in the States and Territories in which you wish to coach, - Inform your SCB if your contact details change.

Coaching Levels
Motorcycling Australia (MA), in conjunction with the Australian Sports Commission, have developed the two current levels of accreditation:
Level 1 Coaching Accreditation
Introductory and Club level coaching
The Level 1 course is an introductory course deigned to equip coaches with useable coaching knowledge and skills. The course is particularly aimed at:
- Beginner coaches, working in introductory programs at the club level
- Parents and those persons coaching juniors
- People who coach once or twice per week – up to 6 hours per week
A Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Coach can:
- Conduct basic licence testing (ie. Kick Start or competency upgrades in the Junior Coaching Program)
- Assist Level 2 coaches and supervise structured coaching days
- Coach a maximum of 6 riders in a coaching session
Accreditation Requirements of Level 1 are:
- Be 18 years of age and have at least 2 years practical experience in motorcycling competition as a competitor or official, together with a sound knowledge of motorcycling technique
- Attend and pass a Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Coaching coordinated by an SCB
- Within 12 months of the course complete:
- 20 hours of practical motorcycle coaching
- The ASC Community Coaching General Principles online course
- Fulfil Child Protection requirements for the State/s or Territory in which you wish to coach
- Complete and return the Level 1 Coaching Accreditation and Licence Application form to the relevant SCB

Level 2 Coaching Accreditation
Intermediate and National level coaching
Level 2 Coaching Accreditation is administered by Motorcycling Australia, and conducted through an intermediate course designed to extend the Level 1 coach’s ability to confidently and safely coach. The course is aimed at Level 1 coaches seeking to coach at a higher performance level.A Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Coach can:
- Conduct advanced licence testing
- Create their own coaching sessions
- Utilise Level 1 accredited coaches as assistants
- Coach a maximum of 15 riders, with an additional 10 riders per Level 1 assistant coach
Attaining a Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Accreditation
To obtain a Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Accreditation (and coaching licence), the following is required:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a Level 1 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Accreditation
- Have obtained the Intermediate Coaching General Principles or Level 2 General Principles of Coaching Accreditation
- Attend a Level 2 Motorcycle Sport Coaching Course and fulfil the following:
- Pass the Practical Coaching Assessment – during course
- Pass the Motorcycling Specific take home assessments – within 1 month after course
- Undertake 40 hours practical motorcycle coaching (10 hours supervised) – within 12 months after course
- Fulfill the Child Protection requirements of the state you wish to coach in – with final application
- Complete and return the Level 2 Coaching Accreditation and Licence Application form to Motorcycling Australia.

Updating Accreditation
(Re-accreditation)
Coaching accreditation lasts four years, but a Motorcycle Sport coaching licence is for one year. For a Motorcycle Sport coach to be recognised by Motorcycling Australia they must renew their coaching licence on an annual basis.To renew a Coaching licence, please download the Level 2 Coaching Accreditation/Licence Application Form.
In order to extend the accreditation period by another four years (re-accredit) it is necessary to perform updating activities that develop your skills as a coach – this includes both sport specific tasks and general sports tasks.
The following are examples of activities that will count towards your re-accreditation:
SPORT SPECIFIC TASKS
- Obtain a higher level of coaching accreditation
- Attend motorcycling courses
- Conduct practical club coaching
- Present/lecture at courses
- Attend coaching workshops
- Attend training camps
- Work with a Level 2 coach
GENERAL SPORT TASKS
- Attend State Department of Sport & Recreation courses
- Attend other NCAS courses
- Obtain Sport Trainer accreditation
- Obtain First Aid Certificate
- Obtain CPR accreditation
- Obtain an officials accreditation
