The FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) series will return to Australia for the first time in 10 years in 2027, with Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway to host the final two rounds in a massive double-header on October 29-30.
It will be the first time a world champion is crowned Down Under since Aussie icon Jason Doyle won the 2017 FIM Speedway GP of Australia in Melbourne to clinch the sport’s biggest prize.
Mayfield Sports Events founder Richard Coleman is delighted to be bringing SGP Down Under for a high-stakes finale to the 2027 season at the country’s top speedway venue.
“One of the main questions we have received from the fans since we acquired the championships a year ago is when we would be going back to Australia, so it is an absolute pleasure to make that dream a reality in October 2027,” he said.
“Australia won the 2025 FIM Speedway of Nations and 2026 FIM Speedway World Cup, and Brady Kurtz is very much in contention for Speedway GP gold in Torun this weekend. This truly is a special time for Australian speedway, and there could not be a better moment to bring the series back to the country where the sport was born over 100 years ago.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Gillman Speedway, the South Australian government, Motorcycling Australia and our partners at Monster Energy and the FIM for their support in making this happen. It has been a real team effort, and this is a special day for the sport Down Under.”
Gillman has been a local speedway staple for decades, hosting state, national and international solo and sidecar events, including numerous Australian championships.
Australia has hosted SGP rounds on four previous occasions: in 2002 at Accor Stadium in Sydney and then at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne from 2015-2017. American Greg Hancock won the first two before Aussie duo Chris Holder (2016) and Doyle (2017) rose to the occasion in front of partisan home crowds.
