It’s already been a jaw-dropper, but the scene is now set for a grandstand finish to the 2026 KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX) in Shepparton on Friday afternoon.
At the halfway mark in the championship, riders continue to fight for supremacy around the Goulburn Valley Junior Motorcycle Club track – and with precipitation forecast over the next two days there could be plenty of twists and turns on the horizon across all 12 classes.
Five of the classes have already commenced their finals campaign, with Claire Pollard (150cc 2T/250cc 4T Girls), Kyle Harvey (125cc 2T 15-U17), Ollie Birkitt (150cc 2T/250cc 4T 13-U15) and Indie Allison (85cc 2T/150cc 4T Girls) all making perfect starts to their campaigns, while Ethan Wolfe and Connor Feather are neck and neck in 85cc 2T/150cc 4T 14-U16.
The other seven classes completed their qualifying heats on Wednesday, leaving 40 riders to begin finals action on Thursday as the pressure meter dials up yet again.
Among the standouts in the qualifying heats were Seth Thomas (125cc 2T 13-U15) – the only defending class champion at the 2026 AJMX – Jobe Dunne (150cc 2T/250cc 4T 15yrs), Lucas Nilsson (50cc Auto), Ryder Madafiglio (65cc 2T 10-U12) – who was 10th in the 2026 world 65cc motocross title – Oliver Thredgold (65cc 2T 7-U10), Liam Millard (85cc 2T/150cc 4T 12-U14) and Nate Lee and Lucas Poole in 85cc 2T/150cc 4T 9-U12).
Thursday’s schedule is again jam-packed, with racing continuing until about 3:30pm as the battles for championship success intensify.
Entry is free for spectators, while there’s plenty of on-site catering to make it a great outing to watch the next wave of Aussie motocross superstars ply their trade. The track is located at 510 Echuca Road, Mooroopna.
