Australia and New Zealand have enjoyed a long lasting comradery and rivalry over the years. Now two nations will once again come to a head at the AJMX.
Ray Broad, an FIM Oceania Board member, shared his excitement; “Building the FIM Oceania relationship between Australia and New Zealand is quite important. We’re putting in the necessary steps in place to bring that relationship to the next level, and focusing on junior development has been the priority. The FIM Oceania Junior Motocross Challenge is the natural progression of that relationship.
“I’ve visited the Horsham Motorcycle Club a couple of times, and the track is fantastic,” according to Broad. “The club’s president, Kenny Watts is a real supporter of the Oceania Challenge and excited about the potential opportunities it delivers,” Broad concluded.
The KTM AJMX is the apex of junior motocross competition in Australia and this year’s eagerly anticipated event at the well-equipped Horsham track will provide plenty of action and excitement when it showcases the stars of tomorrow. The week long event will see international hopefuls, defending champions and a deep pool of talent test their skills.
Kenny Watts, President of the Horsham Motorcycle Club shared his comments on the newly formed challenge; “The FIM Oceania Challenge will run in conjunction with the KTM AJMX in 2017 and will feature battles between Australian and New Zealand competitors, who will both have plenty of pride on the line. It will be a real highlight of the event,” Watts exclaimed.
FIM Oceania President Glen Williams discussed the Oceania Challenge; “The rivalry between Australia and New Zealand is certainly there. The riders are also extremely excited to be a part of a team and to be competing in an intercontinental championship rather than just an internal championship.
“The AJMX is one of the largest motorcycle events by numbers, so it's a phenomenal opportunity for the FIM Oceania to be involved in. The event also fosters junior development and develops the motocross stars of tomorrow," Williams finished.
