I want to race:
I'm over 16:
You need to join an
affiliated club first, then you need to learn the basic rules
of racing, and pass a written test. Then you need to pass a simple
practical riding test or demonstrate you can control a motorcycle.
Your State
Controlling Body can tell you about Clubs in your area.
Once you have completed this process, you
can apply for a licence. There are several different types of licence
available, depending on the level of competition you want to be involved
in.
Most clubs have coaches and officials who
can help you along the way.

I am a Junior (aged 7 to under 16):
You need to join an

To ensure the safety of junior riders, MA
has created a new Junior Coaching Program for all riders aged 7 to under
16.
Once you have completed this process, and
have undergone 5 hours of coaching, you can apply for a licence. There
are several different types of licence available, depending on the level
of competition you want to be involved in.

I am under 7:
You need to join an affiliated club,
then you need to demonstrate that you can control and stand upright a
motorcycle. You won't be able to race until you have reached age 7, but
you can take part in non-competitive events, like mini-moto.

I want to ride a non-competitive event, eg a track day, practice
day, off-road trail ride
You need to have a Recreational licence, or
a competition licence . Recreational licences can be purchased for
single-event [$20] or annually [$80], usually from the organiser of the
event or your SCB.
You need to be a member of an MA affiliated
club to get an Annual Recreation licence.

[other than a One Event Recreational licence] or Riders' Division

I want to ride on a Tour, or other 'on-road ' MA non-competitive
activity:
You need to have an Motorcycling Australia
licence, or be a member of MA Riders' Division. You will also need
to have a motorcycle licence from your State or Territory.
Tours run across the year. "On
Road' can include gravel roads, tracks, etc, but they need to be public
roads.

Riders' Division help Motorcycling Australia work to protect the rights

significant bikes are purchased by speculators and then sent

How can I join Motorcycling Australia?
Competitive- Adult (16 and over)
The first thing to do is join an affiliated
Club. Clubs vary in their location, what kind of competition they
participate in, their services, and social aspects. To compete, you'll
need to have the right equipment and training. Your club can help you
with information about all these things. There's more

Competitive- Junior (aged 7 to under 16)
MA strives to make sure that all riders
know the rules of racing, and are as skilled as they can be, to reduce
the risk of injury. All Junior riders [aged 7 to under 16] must
participate in a Junior Coaching Program. Click here

Non-Competitive [Riders' Division]

Non-Competitive [Recreational]
You can usually buy a Single Event
Recreational Licence [$20] on the day of the event from the
organiser . You can buy an Annual Recreational licence [$85.50] from
your SCB or

Track days
What licence do I need?
If the Track Day you are attending is being
run under Motorcycling Australia rules, you'll need either a Competition
licence or a Recreational licence. Recreational licences are available
in One- Event or Annual format. One Event Recreational licences cost
$20. Annual recreational licences cost $85.50, and you need to be a
member of an affiliated club.

Where can I get a [race] licence?
Competition licences can be obtained
through your club, following this
process. Recreational licences can be obtained from the
organiser of the event, your club or State Controlling
Body.

What else do I need for a Track Day?
You should confirm what else you need for a
Track Day operators, as they all have different requirements.
You should, however, wear all appropriate
protective clothing and gear, including, as a minimum; a helmet and eye
protection, leathers and gloves, calf-length leather boots and a back
protector. Safety is our first priority, and it should be yours,
too.

How much does Membership cost?
Competitive Licence
Prices depend on what sort or level of
competition you're involved in, and your State.
Officials Licence
Officials licence are free or very low
cost.
Non-Competitive [Recreational]
One Event Recreational licences cost $20.
Annual recreational licences cost $85.50.
Non-Competitive [Riders' Division]
Motorcycling Australia Membership is great value for money,
and you can get the price of your membership back many times over each
year. The regular price of joining is $35 a year, but you can save even
more by joining for more than a year.

I I want to get a Motorcycle
licence (State or civil)
Motorcycling is fun. It's also a cost-effective way of
commuting, and the number of motorcycles is growing proportionally
faster than four-wheeled vehicles.
Different States and Territories have different
requirements for getting a motorcycle or scooter licence. Click

Riders' Division Membership
When will my membership expire?
Your membership is effectively for 12
months (or 3 or 5 years) from the date we receive your payment. You can
expect to get a renewal notice from us about 2 months before your
membership expires. Lifetime memberships are for the life of the member
and are not transferable.
How can I renew my membership?
You will receive a renewal notice in the
mail a month or so before your membership expires. You can pay by Credit
Card, cheque or money order.
What are the different levels of membership?
Membership of the Motorcycling Australia
costs $35 a year and provides all the benefits of membership, such as
the right to participate in certain Motorcycling Australia activities,
discounts on goods and services, and regular email news from MA.
You can also join for 3 years, 5 years or a lifetime, and save even
more. Full Life membership can be purchased for a one-off fee of
$385.
I lost my membership card. How can I get a
replacement?
Call the Motorcycling Australia on 03
96840500, or send an email to riders@ma.org.au. You should receive
your new card in two to three weeks.
How soon will I get my membership card after I join or
renew?
Cards are usually sent in three to four
weeks. You should also receive other information from Motorcycling
Australia at the same time.
I don't have my card and I want to participate in an event this
weekend. What do I do?
If you plan to take part in an event
in the next three to four weeks, it is best to follow up joining with an
email (riders@ma.org.au) or a
phone call on 03 9684 0500 and we'll get your card to you by express
post. We do not refund multiple memberships.
I already have a Motorcycling Australia Competition or
Official's licence. Is it worth joining the Riders' Division?
If you have a 12 month Competition or
Official's licence you automatically get all the benefits of being a
member of the Riders' Division.
To gain access to the benefits, you'll need
to log-in to the MA website. Do this only when you are
prompted to do so (you reach a page that says- "you have
reached a members-only area") , using your licence number in the
username box and your date of birth (ddmmyyyy format please: This means
if you were born on 4th December 1960, you enter your birth date as
04121960) in the password box.
I want to go racing, Should I join the Motorcycling
Australia Riders' Division?
The Riders' Division (non-competitive membership)
is intended for non-competition motorcyclists.
If you want to race, you'll have to go through the normal process of
getting a race licence as described
above.
What Non-competitive Events can I take part
in?
Organised Tours
There are dozens of organised Tours conducted every year
under Motorcycling Australia rules. These can be On-Road or Off-Road. Some
tours require that you hold a Motorcycling Australia licence or have a
Riders' Division membership.
Motorcycling Australia Events
There are an ever increasing number of Motorcycling
Australia arranged events. These will be advised to you through email
and our fortnightly e-newsletter.
