ImageScootering Round Australia in 15 days

At 9.30am on 6 August 2006, a Honda Silverwing scooter departed from Federation Square in Melbourne on a Round Australia scooter ride .

Over the following 15 days the rider completed a 15,000km circumnavigation of the continent on Highway 1. Honda provided a 600cc Silverwing, with sponsorship from Western QBE, Motorcycling Australia, Motorcycle Riders Association and bikesales.com.au

It took 338 hours to complete the 14,998km of the ride, at an average about 105kmh for the run. The rider said that Australia was the only country on earth that such an event would be possible. He fully explored the Silverwing's potential on the Northern Territory's unrestricted roads.

Check back here soon for a summary of the statistics of the ride, including the V max of the maxi-scooter.

The ride raised funds for the Lighthouse Foundation, a charity which provides housing for homeless adolescents. J Languiller is a veteran of several motorcycle record attempts, especially on scooters.
